CommentsHi, My father, Stephen A. Underwood, Jr., was nearly killed at Selestat Dec. 17, 1944, near the train station. He was hit with German mortars. He was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for the defense of Selestat, the equivalent of the Distinguished Service Cross for his batallion, 1st batallion, 142nd infantry, 36th division. The Germans counterattacked Selestat early Dec. 12, 1944, in Operation Habicht or Hawk. Over 1000 Germans hit the town. At the day's end over 200 lay dead throughout the city with about the same number outside. I have a lot on the battle if interested. GregColmar@hotmail.com

Also interested in deeper roots. Family stories I remember include Alsace-Lorraine origins for Harry's grandparents with an Ellis Island name change from Koenig to Kueny, and an account of Harry's mother having run off with a circus guy. Any corroboration? (I, Richard Sutter Kueny, was born in 1941, now live in Redwood City, CA working as a high school chemistry teacher. I have three children in their 30's, Rachel, Jan, and Tucker. CommentsCarrie Kueny Lane I am the granddaughter of Francis Anthony Kueny (1916-1997) of Vinton, Iowa. His father was Edward Kueny, his mother was Elizabeth Piper (sp?) both from Iowa. I am just beginning my search. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I know we are originally from Alsace. I can be reached at dogcatcher11@msn.com
CommentsI am Carrie's mother. I am Carolyn Kueny. My father was Francis Anthony Kueny. His father was Edward, a brother to Jacob, Rose, and about 7 other brothers including Doctor Charles Kueny, I think. Their father was Killian who was married to Clementima Boone. The home town of Clementina and children was Danbury, Iowa in Woodbury County. Her children were born in a sod hut in western Iowa/eastern Nebraska area. Killian was killed by a bull while trying to cross its pasture armed only with a pitchfork. He lost. I know a picture of him, his wife, and all the adult children is in existence, but I don't know who has it. Given time, I will think of the names of some of the other children in that family. ccackle@aol.com
CommentsOther children of Killian and Clementina were Rose, Edward, Xavier, Albert, Jacob, and Frank. There were more, but I don't have those names yet. I will get them. A cousin of my dad's named Norman Kueny from western Iowa visited here some years ago and he is the one who had the picture of Killian and his wife and children Carolyn Kueny Kleiner ccackle@aol.com

CommentsMy ancestors were Kueny's, on my mother's side. They were her Mother's Father's family. Joseph Kueny was born in France, and was a chef at The Metropolitan Opera House, The Cincinnati Zoo Restaurant, and had hotels in Muskegon, Michigan and Dundee, Florida. He was my Grandmother's uncle. Her father, George Kueny, was a window dresser in New York City. The rest of the family included Emil, and two sisters, who I can't remember their names at the moment, but could find out easily. The modern patriarc of the Kueny family is Ken Kueny, who lives in North Muskegon, Michigan. He has several children, and grandchildren, one who is quite a prominant amature golfer. Do you think you are relation? It's such an unusual name.
CommentsLooking for any records for Charles or Ernest Kueny from 1872-1913.
