Genealogy
Applications
The
following is a list (not comprehensive) of Windows based genealogy applications
for recording family data. This list is designed only to identify what family
recording software is available. The descriptions are in my words, not those of
the developer, and should not be considered all inclusive of the features of any
one genealogy software application.
If you are
seeking a genealogical application to record information about your family and
ancestors, search through this alphabetically arranged list below. Visit the web sites of the different
developers. Each offers a trial version of their software. Use the various trial
versions to find the genealogical application that matches your specific method
of research.
Three US
based software packages (Genbox,
Legacy, and
The Master Genealogist) are usually
spoken of as the 'big three' in online discussions. Those three software, while
listed here, have their own section. A brief description with links to web sites
and news groups are included for all other applications. Just follow the link from the listing here
to those specific pages.

Notes, Sources, Repositories, and Submitters) to
display database information. Each line in the display is a different
individual. You click on and open that display to show all data. Or,
right-click on a name and select Properties to open a six tab form (Main,
Detail, Events, Notes, Objects, All)
showing all information for the selected individual. You can keep the
properties form active and click on different individuals in your database
to show information. allows you to create and view
a report, then while
viewing the report change and apply appearance options and view those changes in
the displayed report prior to printing. You can also change information in your
database, then update the contents of a displayed report prior to printing that
report.
