Stories of Other TrangenderedThe five news stories attached to this pages describe briefly the lives of other transgendered. They represent the few news stories I've been able to locate about others. Of the five, only two -- the feature story about Alice and the FTM (Female-to-Male) Diary -- describe the lives of female to male transgendered. One of those two, the story about Alice, I'm afraid I only chanced upon because my spouse's friend (actually her father's office manager during his days in Congress) sent us an email about a story in the Washington Post. It is not that female to male transgendered are rarer. The female to male gender change actually accounts for fully half of all gender changes. Instead, I suspect the lack of feature stories about female to male transgendered is they cause less comment. I'm sure you've heard of the glass ceiling. That phrase refers to an unwritten barrier in business, academia, or any profession, past which it is difficult for women to move. I believe that our society views male to female gender changes as a step down within our social structure. Conversely, the female to male gender change would be a step up. So, the media tends to write about the males who would give up their privileged position within our society to be women. The media has never been able to comprehend that an individual who changes gender is in reality not changing, instead is accepting their true selves and their true gender. You will also find an article titled Gender Identity: MIND OVER BIOLOGY by Barbara Sehr of the Mining Company, a recent addition to Internet search engines. You may also be interested in reading Katie's Diary for information about the transition of another woman.
