Transgendered

Who am I? As are you or any other person, I am a complex individual.

Until 1994, I had tried to live within a false gender shell, trying to live my life as society mistakenly believe was correct. It was in that year, 1994, that I was diagnosed gender dysphoric, a transgendered individual. Since then, I've been living as a member of my true gender.

This diagnosis did not come as a surprise. As a young child I was tested by a representative of the University of Michigan in the early 1950s. Much to that individual's surprise, I was identified as female. Unfortunately, in the early 1950s the terms intersexed or transgendered were unknown.

I wrote the above paragraphs  a decade ago when my web page first appeared on Netcom. That site, consisting of only a couple of pages, migrated to a registered domain in January 1998. Since, the web site has expanded into a multi-purpose web site that is still growing with new pages.

And yet adding new pages when time permits may not be the answer. One survey form brought the following:

I was looking for info unrelated but being a clinical psychologist was intrigued by the item in your family tree. I guess I'm only commenting here to voice support for your courage and convictions.

Maybe a little disclosure about what it means to be normal and happy on a day to day basis and be gender dysphoric/gender re-assigned would help some people with the light at the end of their tunnels.

The changes to the web site will include limited scrolling on a page -- at which I am not succeeding here -- by breaking off various topics (such as those listed below) to new browser windows in addition to the links at the left. When you finish with a separate browser window, just close that window and return to the web page from which you started.

The Los Angeles Times has printed a feature, Through the Gender Labyrinth, about gender and gender's perception within society. The feature, based upon Lynn Conway, delves into gender, asking many very interesting questions. Very interesting, and thought provoking reading.
